Kitten Season Is Here - Will You Volunteer to Foster?
The first bottle-baby kittens have arrived. With more on the way, we need your support as foster volunteers, and to spread the word about what to do if you find kittens.
Kitten Fosters Needed
In FY 2025, MCAS cared for 1,730 kittens thanks to the support of our dedicated foster volunteers and shelter staff. When kittens don't have their mother, it can be especially challenging to feed and care for them. Work with bottle-baby kittens is a labor of love until they're old enough to eat on their own, and we need more volunteers to support this important life-saving program. Can you help by volunteering, donating, or spreading the word?
What to Do If You Find Kittens
Your first impulse when you find a litter of kittens outdoors may be to pick them up and bring them to the shelter. But if their mother is hunting for food or hiding nearby, separating the kittens could harm them.
Remember
- Quiet & Clean = Healthy & Safe. Mom is nearby and they can be left alone for their mother to care for them.
- Loud & Dirty = Mom is Missing. They are hungry and you should intervene. Contact MCAS about unweaned kittens that are sick, injured, or in danger.
Leave healthy, unweaned kittens to be cared for by their mother, and contact MCAS about intake or care for kittens that are sick, injured, clearly abandoned or in danger. Learn what to look for and what decisions to make in order to save them.
