Staff Spotlight: Roberta Ruble - Fifteen Years

Roberta Ruble celebrates fifteen (15) years as a Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT) for Multnomah County Animal Services (MCAS), a division of the Department of Community Services (DCS), and as a Multnomah County Employee.

When Roberta started her new job on January 14, 2004, she came with twenty-one prior years of CVT experience working at local veterinary clinics, including Peninsula Dog & Cat Clinic, and Hollywood Vet. She worked multiple jobs, but was grateful for the opportunity to work full time for MCAS.

Roberta wears many hats in her role at MCAS, where she is responsible for performing incoming exams, administering medication and vaccines to shelter animals, treating them for illness or injury, performing radiographs, blood-draws, or related lab work, and assisting shelter veterinarians. In addition, she works with recent adopters, and foster-care volunteers to coordinate appointments for their animals. She is also responsible for ordering medical supplies.

Roberta feels that she can make a difference in her work. The stray animals at the shelter don’t have anyone else, so Roberta and shelter staff are their advocates. “We take every patient’s care to heart,” Roberta says. “Their wellbeing matters deeply.”

In her fifteen years, Roberta gives great credit to her mentor and shelter relief veterinarian, Dr. Mary Blankevoort. Roberta says “Dr. Mary is who I want to be when I grow up.” She is also grateful to her team-mates, notably Sue Gillilan, with whom Roberta has worked for ten years. “Sue is always respectful and a great team player. I couldn’t ask for a better coworker in a stressful hospital environment.”

Thank you, Roberta, for your continued service to the pets and people of Multnomah County.
