About the Role

Multnomah County is seeking a progressive, visionary leader to serve as its next Animal Services Director. In this high-impact executive role, you will guide a dedicated team, shape progressive animal welfare policies, and manage a division with a $13.8 million annual budget, 74 full-time employees, and hundreds of volunteers. Reporting to the Director of the Department of Community Services, you will oversee essential operations including humane animal sheltering, licensing, found animal reunification, Field Services, emergency response, and pet adoption, while driving modern shelter developments and industry best practices.

Salary and Benefits

  • Salary Range: $118,948.83 - $190,317.60 Annual (actual compensation determined by the Oregon Equal Pay Law based on experience, education, and related factors).

Qualifications

  • Minimum Education: A Bachelor's degree in public health, business administration, public policy, or a related field (or equivalent related experience).

  • Minimum Experience: At least five (5) years of senior-level management experience, preferably in a union environment, including comprehensive fiscal and budget management.

  • Key Skills: Proven experience coaching and mentoring staff, implementing performance measurements, and communicating complex information to various stakeholders, including a Board of Commissioners. A strong preference is given to candidates with experience in the animal welfare industry.
