What’s Happening:

  • Meet the Prom Court: Check our social media daily as our long-term residents "ask" you to prom! From the Prom King and Queen hopefuls to the wallflowers looking for a slow dance, we’ll be highlighting the unique personalities of our long-term dogs and cats.
  • Prom Photo Booth: Visiting the shelter? Stop by our themed photo booth in the lobby! Adopters and their new best friends can snap a "Prom Portrait" to commemorate the start of their life together.

Before You Adopt: Is Now the Right Time?

Adopting a pet is a significant commitment. Before bringing a new companion home, please consider the long-term expenses, lifestyle adjustments, and health needs involved.

If you are considering adopting a pet as a gift, please keep these tips in mind:

  • Ensure the recipient has expressed a genuine interest in owning a pet.
  • If the pet is for a child, confirm that parents consent and are prepared to be the primary caregivers.
  • Consider if the new owner has the time, energy, and resources to care for a new animal, and check for any potential allergies.
  • If your household is hectic due to a special season or event, consider introducing the new pet when your home environment is more calm and settled.

Our Commitment to Successful Adoptions

Reducing adoption fees is an effective, life-saving practice supported by industry leaders like the ASPCA, Humane World for Animals, Best Friends, and Maddie’s Fund. It provides an extra incentive for adoption, which reduces an animal's length of stay in the shelter.

During this special, our adoption process remains thorough. Our counselors work diligently to match adopters with an animal compatible with their lifestyle and needs. All applicants receive the same comprehensive counseling and resources to ensure a successful and happy adoption for both you and your new best friend.

Support after the adoption

After bringing a new companion animal home, adopters have regular check-ins and advice from experts through the Petszel Pet Parent Experience, which can help to work through challenges that come with introducing a new pet to your home. Our adoption counselors are also available to work through individual issues to help make an adoption successful.

What if an adoption doesn't work out?

Animal shelters across the country have changed their thinking about adoption returns. Sometimes we learn a pet isn't the right fit after the adoption, and that's okay.

An adoption return can be a learning opportunity. We work with the returning adopter to understand the issues that led to the return, identify any additional needs of the companion animal, and use that information to make a better placement decision.
