New Year’s Resolution: ☑️ Prevent Pet Loss

Happy New Year! Multnomah County Animal Services (MCAS) wants to help with your new year's resolutions to get organized and live life to the fullest. Most importantly, you can prevent pet loss with just a few simple steps.

Pets who are licensed and microchipped are much more likely to be reunited with their people if ever lost, helping to ensure that you can spend a happy, full lifetime with your beloved companion animals.

However, even if you licensed your pet one time, or had them microchipped, you have to take the time to make sure your contact information is up to date for these important forms of identification to be effective. That way, if they ever slip out or go missing- our officers, your neighbors, and local veterinarians can get them back to you as quickly as possible by checking the license and microchip registries- ideally without your pets spending a night in our shelter.

New Account System

In case you haven’t heard- Multnomah County Animal Services has a new redesigned website with an account system to help you manage your pet’s information.

If you’ve adopted or licensed a pet with MCAS, you can add them to your account with ease by providing some basic information, and a few clicks. From there, you can check and update your contact information in our system, keep track of license renewal dates to keep your pets current, and update your pet’s information as needed if you’ve moved, rehomed your pet, or lost a pet.

Step 1: Create an Account

Step 2: Add Your Pets

  • Once logged in, select the “Add My Pets” button.
  • The system will auto-fill your name and contact information from your account.
    • Tip: if you had a different phone number, address, or name when you adopted or licensed your pets, try using your former contact information.
  • Verify your pets’ information, and the website will add them automatically from our shelter database.
  • If you have any pets not in our database, you can register them with a new license purchase.

Step 3: Update your Information

  • Under the “My Pets” heading, you can update your contact and ownership information for your pets.
  • You can also keep track of current and expired licenses, and renew expired licenses as needed.

Step 4: Register or Update Your Pet’s Microchip Information

While a current license tag is the quickest and most convenient way to locate owners of lost pets, local veterinarians and shelters can scan for a microchip as a secondary way to find pet owner contact information if your pet has lost their tags or slipped their collar.

If you need help with any of these steps, or have any questions, please reach out to us at 503-988-7387.

From all of us at MCAS, we wish you a happy new year and happy trails for you and your companion animals.
