National Veterinary Technician Week

It’s National Veterinary Technician Week from October 17 - 23. Help us celebrate the hard-working veterinary personnel of Multnomah County Animal Services offering the highest quality of care for animals in the shelter.

As a community, we say thank you to our Veterinary Technicians for your caring and compassionate work behind the scenes, providing an excellent level of care at our AAHA accredited animal hospital. The work you do saves lives, and changes the lives of animals and their people for the better.

Kudos from the Community

Back in 2015 my husband and I got a kitten as newlyweds. He was fixed with your free fix program and ended up with a virus that made him very I'll. We almost lost him. The vet tech staff took him and cared for him and he survived, thriving. He's now a fat, happy cat, healthy as can be. He wouldn't be here today if it wasn't for your vet staff. You guys are so important and so needed. Thank you for not only saving lives but for doing to minor things that are just as important. You all are hard working individuals that are so critical and the community thanks you for your hard work!

Thank you for all the TLC you provide to our shelter pets, and for the compassionate ways you interact with foster volunteers and community members. Every time I interview foster volunteers, they tell me what a huge difference you make for their volunteer experience, and in the lives of their animals. You are the light at the end of the tunnel for foster volunteers when they spend sleepless nights worrying about their animals.

I am a foster for kittens. My end of Foster time always matches up with surgery. It is the hardest part for me. But Daylyn, I’m sure I’ve spelled it wrong, always makes me laugh with a funny little comment when I drop the babies off. She is sweet and knowledgeable!

With several of my fosters, I have had crises that, in hindsight, are funny but in the moment were quite traumatic for me. Bathing a flea ridden kitten and seeing blood come from their rear area and thinking they are bleeding rectally, having a cat jump from the second story banister of my house, dealing with unfixed fosters in heat, etc. They even walked me through the X-rays and treatment plan of my foster who came in with a bb pellet in her leg! The Vet Techs have always been so kind and respectful. They deserve all the love in the world!

Thank you so much for all the work you do! As a cat foster family, we depend so much on the expertise of the vet techs at MCAS and they never let us down. You rock!!!

Everyone I talked to about my foster dog at the vet office was so helpful, efficient, and encouraging. I felt that I could ask about anything, or come in for a check, without feeling silly or guilty for doing so. The care the vet tech staff have for the animals is very evident in the way they encourage and support foster families to learn to do their best for each one, in spite of how busy we all know they are... Thank you so much!!

To all the Multco vets and techs, THANK YOU so much. Everyone there has been so great to work with. You always are amazingly patient and answer my questions completely. Your gentle and expert care for our foster animals is so very appreciated!!! Your fan, Ann

So much gratitude to all the amazing techs, especially Jackie, Jacque, Roberta, Dalynn, Yevette! Thank you so much for your service. It's a tough job, and it's been an especially difficult year and a half. What would the animals and the community do without you? Because of your expertise, willingness to answer all kinds of questions, guide and teach me, I enjoy and always feel supported fostering through Multco. Of all the rescue organizations in Portland, you are my favorite and it comes down to the fabulous Tech staff. Sending loads of appreciation!

Thank you so much for offering all the support for my sick foster kittens and cats over the years. Your words of encouragement and understanding keep me going when things are tough. So many visits for URI's, - they still have diarrhea what next- and even PanLeuk, you've supported and assisted our work towards kitten recovery. You have also been there when they just don't make it despite all the hours awake at night and many treatments tried. It is always hard to loose a kitten in my care, I feel so responsible for their well being. I appreciate your kind words of support in these situations.

Thank you for all you do. Thank you for the care you provide to all our animals. It does not go unrecognized. You are appreciated.

You are amazing! You have provided me with so much support and taken exceptional care of my foster charges over the last 2 decades. I cannot begin to express the depths of my love and appreciation for all of you. Thank you for all you do for the animals and the foster parents ❤

Kudos to all of the MCAS Vet Techs. They are so knowledgeable, friendly, and always happy to answer questions and help out our volunteers and fosters in addition to the animals in their care. Thank you all for your hard work and dedication!

Quick responses to my emails. Always ready to receive the animal at the appointment time. Bringing them back in no time with the issue resolved. And real understanding and a promise of compassion when my year-long foster I hoped to adopt had to be euthanized. I know there are smiles behind those masks as we pass the carriers back and forth in the parking lot because I can feel them. Thank you for the work that you do for the fur people to make my part of tending to them smooth during these difficult months.

Roberta has been a generous resource for me as a foster over the years. Endlessly positive and helpful for big and small issues.
