Other Services:
If your pet has died:
- You may bring cats or dogs to MCAS for cremation and disposal. The fee is $15.
- If you’d prefer other pet memorial services (cremation, urns, burials), Oregon Humane Society and Dignified Pet Services offer a range of services.
- You may check with your city’s zoning officials to determine if you may legally bury your pet on your property.
- METRO offers a disposal service. Animals must be triple-bagged in plastic and brought to either the METRO South Transfer Station at 2001 Washington St, Oregon City OR the METRO Central Transfer Station at 6161 NW 61st, Portland. Please contact them for additional informational.
- Dead livestock may be processed through a local rendering company.
- Generally, companies that handle neighborhood waste disposal don't allow people to place dead animals into trash bins, but you can check with your waste disposal company for specific information.
If you find a dead stray animal or wildlife on public property:
- MCAS officers will remove dead stray animals and dead wildlife on public property (except freeways). Our goal is to respond within 72 working hours of the call being received by our staff. Call MCAS during regular phone hours to file a report.
- Dead stray animals and wildlife on freeways are removed by ODOT. If the animal presents an immediate hazard, call the ODOT dispatch center in Portland at 503-731-4652.
If you find a dead stray animal or wildlife on private property:
- If you have found a dead stray pet or wildlife on private property, you may call MCAS to have an officer pick it up. Please move the animal to the street or curb before calling.
- Smaller dead wildlife may be brought to MCAS for disposal. For disposal of large mammals (such as elk or cougars) please call MCAS during regular call center hours.
- METRO offers a carcass disposal service. Animals must be triple-bagged in plastic and brought to either the METRO South Transfer Station at 2001 Washington St, Oregon City OR the METRO Central Transfer Station at 6161 NW 61st, Portland. Please contact them for size limitations and additional informational.
If you find a dead bird:
- If you find a dead bird and suspect that it died of a disease, reports may be submitted to Multnomah County Vector Control or ODFW. Also, see ODFW’s web page regarding dead birds.
- Dead birds may be disposed of in the same manner as other wildlife.
